The present work considers the numerous measurement settings of the coupled analysis system LA-ICP-MS for the low-fractionation analysis of building materials. An external calibration with hardened cement paste and internal standardization over the sum of all oxides and water to 100 % turns out to be the best possible calibration strategy. Compared to standards and other spatially resolved measuring techniques, the concentration determination of hardened cement paste samples by LA-ICP-MS is usually insufficient for major elements, but almost always sufficient for trace elements.
