This thesis explores how solidarity is articulated and practiced in the news media, by analysing content and journalists’ roles in the UK, US and Germany. Focusing on marginalized women’s coverage, qualitative methods are used to develop an intersectional framework for analysing the spectrum of ‘positive’ representations. Also, drawing upon interview data, conceptualisations of journalists’ roles are expanded and refined to encompass an intersectionally defined continuum of solidarity-orientated practice.
