Overweight and obesity have an excessive fat accumulation in common, which presents a high risk to health. To shed more light on the adipogenic cell differentiation process, human SGBS cells were differentiated up to 20 days during this PhD work. Samples were collected for lipidomic, metabolomic, and transcriptomic analyses. Adipogenesis was characterized by upregulated degradation pathways for amino acids and redundant very long-chain fatty acids. During differentiation, unsaturated long-chain fatty acids were synthesized, which were mostly coupled to TAG species.
