Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a heterogenous disease with a diverse clinical appearance. The objective of this doctoral thesis was testing the prospective application of skin functional measurements for diagnostics of systemic sclerosis in the setting of a clinical study. While previous studies have not found objective diagnostics for skin features of systemic sclerosis, we analyzed the skin of SSc-patients and 3 control cohorts (atopic eczema, acne vulgaris and healthy skin) by means of quantitative skin measurements (TEWL, skin hydration, pH). Unique to this study, was that we used one investigator and standardized conditions for all measurements.
