Patients with acute ischemic stroke and occlusion of the middle cerebral artery who were treated with mechanical thrombectomy (MTE) show stable outcomes and chances for improvement in a one-year-follow-up. Observation of special subgroups, namely patients with more than 80 years of age, severe symptoms, unknown symptom onset, elevated INR or post intravenous thrombolysis, show chances for therapy success and no risk increase, as well. After careful consideration of the patient’s general condition and individual risks and benefits MTE can be applied.
