Phosphorylation of G protein-coupled receptors is an essential regulatory mechanism, which leads to arrestin binding and controls key processes such as desensitization and internalization. Even though the human beta1-adrenoceptor (ADRB1) is of tremendous importance in many diseases, its phosphorylation remains poorly understood. We elucidated the phosphorylation pattern of the ADRB1 and identified 6 previously unknown phosphorylation sites in the 3rd intracellular loop and the receptor’s C-terminus. Furthermore, we discovered the receptor‘s arrestin recognition site in the C-terminus.
