In this study a conventional troponin T (cTNT) assay was compared directly with a high-sensitivity troponin T (hsTNT) assay in a series of patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS). It was shown a significant diagnostic shift from unstable angina to non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) using the hsTNT assay. In addition, the hsTNT assay improved the prediction of increased risk of mortality, especially by its ability to measure TNT in the concentration zone below the detection limit of cTNT.
