Even the best performing enterprises are likely to face a crisis at some point of time. This thesis examines the design of the restructuring controlling for a successful crisis management. It analyzes the theoretical principles and, based on empirical studies, describes the opportunities for action during the restructuring process. The insights gained from the empirical studies show that the different causes of a crisis require various types of restructuring arrangements. For a successful crisis management all identified types apply the same restructuring process with a varying focus area and a different mix of restructuring instruments. All recommendations for action per type with relevant instruments are described in detail. This paper balances well theoretical principles and practical insights. Therefore it is highly valuable for both, restructuring managers as well as scientists.
