The current literature reflects a growing interest in the impact of childhood trauma on sexuality. This study aimed to find out if sexual disorders are more often in patients with complex PTSD, whether there exist gender specific differences regarding the symptomatology of sexual disorders and experiences of childhood trauma, and furthermore if sexual disorders are possibly associated with certain types of childhood trauma.
In contrast to the comparison group, sexual disorders were more common in patients with complex PTSD. While women showed more hyposexual disorders, men showed more hypersexual disorders. Women also reported more experiences of sexual childhood trauma than men. Regarding experiences of non-sexual childhood trauma, no remarkable differences could be detected between men and women. Patients with hyposexual disorders had experienced more, patients with hypersexual disorders had experienced less sexual and non-sexual childhood trauma than the comparison groups.
