The mixing process is a crucial part biogas production. At the same time it is the biggest energy consumer within a biogas plant. However, online measurement of mixing quality has not been state-of-the-art yet. In this work, a new measurement system for the monitoring of the mixing quality in biogas digesters is tested at full-scale. A positioning strategy for the sensors of the measurement system at the biogas digester is found from PIV-measurements at a model digester. The PIV-measurements are also used to validate CFD-Simulations. Finally, the investigated agitators are compared.
