In this dissertation, investigations on the development of a loose composite material made of specially prepared milling chips mixed with different ranges of chips and fibres are described with regard to its application as insulation material. The wood chips used are optimized with regard to chip morphology. Already at low densities they are able to form a resistant matrix withstanding static and dynamic stresses. It was shown that by using two-component mixtures consisting of milling chips and fibres, properties required for application in a loose insulation material can be achieved. In this way and taking into account the properties of each individual material, it is possible to produce a high-performance insulation material which is ecological and cost-efficient.
