Securing a quiet brake requires a significant effort during an automotive serial development process. This process may be supported by the simulation of brake squeal.
This work presents a method to simulate brake squeal and its application to the solution of a high-frequency squeal problem.
This method consists of a stability analysis of a Finite-Element-Model of the brake. By the calculation of the complex eigenvalues unstable modes of the system are obtained. This requires a representative model wich generally has to be validated with measurements. Besides the mechanical background advantages and limits of the method are addressed.
The investigated squeal problem consists of a special kind of in-plane movement of a ventilated brake disk. By carrying out measurements and simulations a physical explanation of this phenomenon is found and corrective measures are derived.
