In this thesis, development of epigenomic signatures during intergenerational inheritance of a high-fat diet-induced metabolic phenotype was investigated. By applying in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer into foster mothers, confounding factors were excluded and inheritance exclusively via the parental gametes was achieved. Sequencing of long and small RNA transcripts at various developmental stages revealed transcriptional changes additional to metabolic changes in tissues during organogenesis and at the age of 3 weeks that are potentially caused by alterations of epigenetic regulators during the preimplantation phase.
