Abstract:
The homotypic interaction of transmembrane helices is a key type of protein-protein interaction in the membrane. It supports the dimerisation and oligomerisation of many bitopic membrane protein, and it is therefore vital for many cellular processes. However, the properties of the interface residues are poorly understood. This study quantify the importance of factors such as residue conservation, residue polarity, and the GxxxG motif. Experiments were performed using the ToxR assay, to identification of homotypic TM interfaces in a natural membrane environment.
