We started with the ecosystems concept and analysed whether the concept applies to the automotive industry in an innovative case study regarding autonomous driving. Four cases have been analyzed and the outcome has shown that cooperation in the automotive industry is not a new concept. However, to make cooperations successful more research is needed to analyze psychological factors and management behaviour in strategic decision making as well as in day-to-day operations. So far companies prefer to operate on their own, since risks are man- ageable. We argue that for autonomous driving SAE Level 4 different types of cooperations are required, since so many parties all around the world are involved (infrastructure, jurisdic- tions, society). Research into the previously mentioned can make valuable contributions.     «
