Shear cutting is an important, economic, and sustainable manufacturing process for the separation of sheet materials. The formation of the cut surface and the properties of the shear affected zone define the process quality. For the required spatio-temporal process analysis, a test rig and hybrid deformation analysis were developed. Adapted digital image correlation algorithms combined with variational approaches from computer vision, optical flow methods, are employed for robust dynamic field and crack propagation measurement.
