This paper deals with the development of the nature conservation discourse in the newspaper coverage of the Garmischer Tagblatt since 1925, presenting the various narratives on the subject of nature conservation and their development up to the present day. However, the results of the work are only based on the reporting of the Garmischer Tagblatt. For this purpose, newspaper articles from the archive of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek were selected by means of a sample selection from 1925 to 2000 and analysed using the Qualitative Content Analysis according to MAYRING and the Discourse Analysis according to Dobler and Pukall. The articles from 2001 onwards were taken from the online archive of Münchener Merkurs. A category system was created which served to structure the content and as a basis for the analysis mentioned in this work. Altogether, seventeen narrations can be found in the media discourse on nature conservation. Four of these narrations form their own basic narratives, which are supplemented by a further thirteen narratives. The discourse begins with the basic narrative of "Home and the Cultural Landscape" and the four supplementary narratives "Alpine Plants", "Sensitizing the Population", "Counter Power and Warner" and the narrative "Ammergau Alps". The next basic narration "Artenschutz" is supplemented by the four supplementary narratives "Birdconservation", "Ants", "Beaver-Conflict" and "Lynx". Next comes the basic narration "forest dieback", which is supplemented by "air pollution control". The fourth and last basic narration "Blocker" is supplemented by three narratives, namely "Ammergau Alps National Park", "Protected Areas Conflict" and "Natura-2000 Conflict". In spite of a varied reporting and a competition of topics in sampling, a fundamental and representative summary of the nature conservation discourse could be drawn up from 1925 with regard to the methodology applied and the data collection used.
