The graduate thesis indicates unused potentials of concrete to concrete bond in practice. By investigating the connection mechanism between concretes of different age, it is evident, that beside roughness in particular the absorbency of the old concrete and stable cement suspension are formative for concrete to concrete bond. Considerations of water transportation mechanism between new and old concrete showed, that in some extent counterproductive processing guidelines were corrected.
Under consideration of further parameters, a reliable but economic concrete joint design based on principles of limit state design is possible. Additionally a higher resistance of concrete joints enables more reliable structures especially in rehabilitation. A better quality management of concrete joints is provided by some introduced methods to measure and evaluate the roughness.
