The effectiveness of bitumen emulsions in the recycling of bituminous road construction materials depends on their ability to encapsulate the PAH and Phenols contained in the pitch (tar) as well as on their technological suitability in the processing of a particular recycling material. The work comprehends the detailed investigation and modeling of the dissociation process of commercial bitumen emulsions as well as investigations concerning their abilities to encapsulate PAH using a bituminous model mixture. The actually achievable technologically and environmentally relevant properties are determined systematically with existing bituminous road construction materials.
