Data of 944 pregnancies, that had been diagnosed with gestational diabetes between 1998 and 2010, were reclassified according to the new guidelines of 2011 into GDM and ’overt diabetes in pregnancy’, and compared with respect to pregnancy outcomes. Women with ’overt diabetes in pregnancy’ used insulin more frequently, and were at increased risk for LGA infants, preterm delivery, and low APGAR-score. The new differentiation is a first step towards refining the classification relevant to fetal and maternal postpartum risk.
