Proximal femur fractures are among the most common injuries in the elderly, frequently making them permanently dependent. Increasing aging of population aggravates this problem, as even optimized therapeutical concepts including specific rehabilitation measures have not shown a satisfactory outcome. Future research will have to concentrate on developing possibilities for improvement. The SAHFE protocol creates the basis for comparability of various study results. Furthermore and for economic reasons, prevention of this injury should take higher priority.
