The aerodynamic drag of a vehicle substantially participates to the driving resistance, especially at higher driving speed. One part of the aerodynamic drag originates from the cooling air, which is necessary to temper fluids and components in the engine bay. This study describes and interprets interference effects of the cooling-air with the external aerodynamics. For this purpose numerical simulations including validation, also wind-tunnel experiments and theoretical investigations are applied. As a result, a vehicle with reduced cooling-drag is presented.
