BK channels play an essential role in NO-mediated relaxation of vascular smooth muscle cells. The molecular mechnisms involved in NO-mediated regulation of BK channels presently are not clear. Is the activity of these channels regulated directly by NO or is there always a second-messenger involved, like the cGMP/cGKI-system?
