Aim of this study was to investigate the potential of multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT) to detect and assess rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a murine model. MSOT using inflammation targeting contrast agents allowed for detection and staging of RA through accurate visualization of arthritic inflammation, as confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging, clinical observation, and histopathology. MSOT could easily be translated into clinical practice as a readily applicable imaging method for RA.

Das Ziel der Studie war in einem Mausmodell zu erforschen, ob sich multispektrale optoakutische Tomographie (MSOT) eignet, um rheumatoide Arthritis (RA) zu erkennen und abzuschätzen. MSOT stellte mittels entzündungsspezifischer Kontrastmittel Gelenkentzündungen präzise dar, was durch Magnetresonanztomographie, Klinik und Histopathologie bestätigt wurde.
