The present thesis deals with the synthesis and the material properties of proton-conducting composite electrolytes. Mainly it focuses on the investigation of conductivity, since this property represents the most important feature of an electrolyte. The study is concerned with two different types of composites, suitable for use in the low (< 200°C) and the intermediate temperature region (200 - 600°C), respectively: electrolyte impregnated fleeces and polyphosphate ceramics. Composites were synthesized for each of the temperature regimes and their performance was investigated among other parameters with regard to their possible application in fuel cells, by solid state physical and electrochemical methods.
