In the contouring of carbon fibre reinforced plastics, remote laser cutting offers considerable potential for large scale production. The process principle of the thermal ablation causes a heat affected zone along the kerf whose structural properties were investigated on. Within this region, a reduction of critical load peaks was determined by finite element simulations. As a result of dynamic tensile testing, this effect leads to an increased durability of highly stressed components.
