This paper presents a textquotelefttextquoteleftdrytextquoterighttextquoteright tar sampling method developed at the University of Stuttgart that considerably simplifies the experimental procedure for tar sampling and analysis. It employs a sampling system consisting of three main components: hot gas filtration, tar probe for the retention of components with high boiling point and on-line analysis of the components passing this filter. Tar is quantified by registering the weight increase of the tar probe. Components with a higher boiling point than naphthalene are retained completely on the probe, while BTX components, phenol, and indene pass it completely. Naphthalene passes to more than 90     «
