The need to reduce their product’s weight has forced the automotive industry to focus on the drive train and with that on the gearwheel. These very heterogeneously loaded parts have not been investigated yet with a focus on the combination of lightweight design and manufacturing. In this work, investigations on multi-component gearwheels, consisting of a gear ring and a wheel body, are carried out. The focus lies on the design and the manufacturing process of the mentioned wheel body using sheet metal. As manufacturing processes, deep drawing and fine blanking were chosen. The load carrying capacity of the designed gearwheels is proven using a custom made test bench.
