Functional retinal changes in Gaucher disease.
Abstract:
In Gaucher disease, sphingolipid glucosylceramide is accumulated in cells of the reticulo-endothelial system. This leads to the formation of "Gaucher cells," which are enlarged macrophages. In the eye, circumscript preretinal deposits are a pathognomonic feature.
