The 6 intervention mapping steps were applied to conceptualize a school-based randomized controlled trial for the promotion of physical activity by cycling to secondary school in Germany. Concept mapping was conducted in students, parents, and teachers (1). An integrated framework of the self-determination theory and social-ecological model was chosen (2). Evidence- and theory-based behavior change methods from a systematic review and the taxonomy v1 (3) were used to create the intervention (4). An implementation (5) and evaluation (6) plan were drafted.
