In the present study, the gas and methane yields of the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus obliquus were experimentally investigated in comparison in batch experiments and continuous experiments. The freshwater algae Chlorella vulgaris showed astonishingly high gas yields in both experiments, although the room load was constantly increased. The salt alga Scenedesmus obliquus was previously oil-extracted. Nevertheless, the residual algae mass during fermentation showed good gas yields despite an increase in salt concentration.
