Es wurde 150 PatientInnen mit Kopf-Hals-Tumoren, die konsekutiv an der Abteilung für Mund-Kiefer-Gesichtschirurgie behandelt wurden, im Hinblick auf Komplikationen im Rahmen einer Tracheotomie untersucht. Als signifikante Risikofaktoren für eine Tracheotomie assoziierte Komplikation konnten wir in dieser Arbeit eine vorherige Tumorerkrankung (p=0.041), das Alter der PatientInnen (p=0.036), der ASA-Grad (p=0.004) sowie Alkohol und Nikotinabusus (p=0.015) definieren. Daher soll die Entscheidung zu einer Tracheotomie gut überlegt sein.     «

In the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery we have examined the medical records of 150 patients with head and neck cancer who have been consecutively treated for complications associable with tracheotomy. We have revealed the age of the patient (p=0.036), alcohol or nicotine abuse (p=0.015), ASA-Grade (p=0.004) and a secondary tumor (p=0.041) to be significant risk factors for a tracheotomy associated complication. Consequently, the decision to perform a tracheostomy should be carefully considered.     «
