The generation of novel, intelligent materials through rare earth metal-mediated group transfer polymerization becomes possible through C-H bond activation. Within this work, initiators with protected functional groups were selectively introduced in poly(diethyl vinylphosphonate) and were functionalized hereafter. Besides, macromolecular initiators based on poly(dimethylsiloxane) were used for the first time to produce functional copolymers. In addition, B’BABB’ block copolymers formed defined, cross-linked nanocarriers which were modified with folic acid for active drug targeting.
