The share of the global population living in urban areas is steadily increasing. Rapid urbanization together with population growth increasingly raises sustainability concerns. Rapid growth of cities leads to settlement of areas which are unsuitable for urban use. In Latin America, informal settlement of low socioeconomic groups pose environmental challenges and reinforces their vulnerability. This work aims at identifying and learning the main factors that influence the socioeconomic level of settlers on land. This can improve urban growth models and support urban planning.
