Prof. Karl Ulrich Schreiber at the ring laser of the geodesy observatory Wettzell. Two counter-rotating laser beams travel around a closed square path with mirrors in the corners. (The tubes have been replaced with bigger ones.) The ring laser is mounted with supporting beams on a base plate, all built from Zerodur. When the laser is working, it is housed in a pressurized cabin.
