In today’s organizations, an increased competition and shorter product development cycles lead to a rising amount of technical changes, as well as a growing complexity in products and production systems. In order to manage these technical changes efficiently, enterprises need a close interaction between engineering and manufacturing change management. This paper addresses the implications of current and future social and industrial trends, such as digitalization, for planning and implementing technical changes to products and production systems from the perspectives of research and practice. These implications highlight the need for a holistic management of technical changes among the product development and manufacturing departments. Thus, within this paper we propose an approach referred to as “Systemic Change Management”. Within a working industry group, requirements from practitioners’ perspective for a systemic change management were discussed and evaluated. Based on these requirements, the Systemic Change Management approach is presented.     «
