The paper describes the results of an online survey on the implementation of agile development in the physical product development process. The survey with a sample size of 158 was structured in two parts. The first part was for participants who already work with agile methods and the other part was for participants who usually work with non-agile development methods. The answers were analysed with statistical methods. The results of this survey give an insight on advantages and disadvantages of agile development as well as its boundary conditions. For example, the main positive effects of agile development are a better communication and facilitated integration of requirement changes. Moreover, the survey shows, how the German industry implements agile processes. For a successful implementation pilot projects and an experienced agile team member is needed. Methods to support the implementation process of agile development are strongly recommended from agile and non-agile users.     «
