The overall goal of this research is to gain understanding about crisis situations in engineering product development. To gain this understanding, literature review on crisis situations is conducted. The following research questions are posed in this work: How are crisis situations defined in engineering product development? What are the causes and effects of crisis situations in engineering product development? What are the relevant research fields, which can contribute to crisis management in engineering product development? What are the influencing factors that affect efficient crisis management? What are the key factors for efficient crisis management? Literature on engineering product development, economics, business science, and project management is reviewed. Definitions are compared. Causes, effects, and crisis processes are described. The results of the literature review are documented in a reference model. The key factors of the reference model are discussed.      «
