Hot gas cleaning in integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plants is a key technology for increasing both efficiency and reliability of these advanced power plants. Alkali sorption performance of high temperature getter materials (alumosilicates) have so far only been tested in oxidizing atmospheres for temperatures above 1000 textdegreeC. In this study one potential mineral getter was tested for its total temperature dependent chemisorption capacity for alkali compounds under conditions relevant to integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power generation systems. For these laboratory tests a benchmark setting pressurized simultaneous thermal analysis (PSTA) device for TG-DTA/TG-DSC investigations was developed. This instrument allows working pressures ranging from vacuum to 0.6 MPa absolute pressure at a maximum working temperature of 1750 textdegreeC. Under all constraints precisely controlled dynamic atmospheres mixed of up to four gases are possible, from reducing over inert to oxidizing conditions. Due to a volumetrically symmetrical balance construction pretended mass changes are avoided and even dynamic pressure changes are practicable.
