The influence of the growth factor G-CSF on supraspinatus tendon healing in the rat model was evaluated. The growth factor was over a period of 20 days continuously applied to the site of reconstruction by a new developed phospholipid-gel. According to our model of chronic supraspinatus tendon degeneration the site of rupture was created before refixation and application of the growth factor. A significant better cellular variation, an improved collagen distribution and a positive trend of a higher load-to-failure as well as a better histological result were observed in the treatment groups.
