Nanocomposites based on hard, stable transition metal nitrides are a new group of materials possessing a high thermal stability, high hardness and wide possibilities of industrial usage. In this work, nc-TiN/a-BN/a-TiB2 coatings were deposited by plasma chemical vapour deposition and characterized. For purposes of comparison, nc-TiN/a-TiB2 coatings produced by vacuum arc evaporation were taken into survey as well. Additionally, thermal stability of nc-ZrN/a-Ni and nc-Cr2N/a-Ni coatings, deposited by magnetron sputtering, was examined.
