Using silver salts [Ag(NCCH3)n][Al(OC(CF3)2R)¬4] (n = 2, 4; R = CF3, Ph, PhCH3) as starting materials, nitrile ligated copper(I), copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes are synthesized via metathesis reactions. Copper (II) complexes [Cu(NCR’)6][Al(OC(CF3)2R)4]2 are very efficient catalysts for olefin aziridination, affording good yields (up to 96%) and high TOF (up to 5000 h-1) under mild conditions. The so far highest cis:trans ratio (98:2) is achieved for cis-stilbene. Copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes [M(NCPh)6][Al(OC(CF3)3)4]2 are comparatively active as their fluorinated tetraphenylborates congeners for polymerization of isobutylene. Complex [P*-PhCH2OC6F4B(C6F5)3]-Li+ (P* = Merrifield resin backbone) is synthesized via a one pot procedure. The low yield (20%) can be attributed to steric barriers. Lewis acids R’CNAl(OC(CF3)2R)3 (R’ = CH3, Ph; R = Ph, PhCH3) are synthesized and applied as catalysts in ring-opening reaction of epoxides by amines. They are weaker Lewis acids than B(C6F5)3 but show higher catalytic activity.
