This work is trying to answer the question, which part of the secretion of the sweetwater snail Biomphalaria glabrata is responsible for the attraction of Schistosoma mansoni miracidia. Snail conditioned water, that had already undergone elimination of unattractive material, was used for further investigation. It was split up through liquid chromatography, tested for attraction of living miracidia and analysed with gaschromatography and amino acid analysis. It was shown that a major component of the attractive fractions was NH3. A comparison to the attractions of miracidia by other chemicals with a NH3-group confirmed the results.
