Die direkten und indirekten Kosten von 277 Patienten mit der Diagnose einer Schizophrenie, deren behandelnde Nervenärzte bzw. Psychiater in eine Interventionsgruppe mit Qualitätsmanagement oder in eine Kontrollgruppe mit üblicher Behandlung randomisiert worden waren, wurden über 18 Monate erhoben. Am Ende der Untersuchung konnte in der Interventionsgruppe mit leitliniengestützten Qualitätsmanagementmaßnahmen trotz der projektbedingten Zusatzkosten eine sehr deutliche wenn auch nicht statistisch signifikante Kostenreduktion sowohl bei den direkten als auch bei den indirekten Kosten erzielt werden.    «

The direct and indirect costs of 277 schizophrenic outpatients treated by psychiatrists, who were randomised in an intervention group with quality management or in a control group with treatment as usual, were surveyed for 18 months. At the end of the trial the direct and indirect costs of the intervention group with quality treatment were much lower, but not statistically significant, than the costs of the control group, although the intervention group needed additional costs related to the quality management project.     «
