The study involves the strategic management of real estate resources in non-profit organisations. A written survey was used to gain a picture of the current portfolio, the use and management of property in German non-profit organisations. In addition, interviews were held with representatives of religious and social organisations to deepen knowledge on the qualities, problems of acquisition, management and disposal of real estate. Based on this expert knowledge, a strategic real estate planning process was created, allowing for the specific needs of religious and social organisations, in particular the complex ownership arrangements and financial obligations as well as the heterogeneous and specific needs within their property portfolio. The aim of the planning process is to identify opportunities to reduce real estate related costs and increase efficiency in real estate management.
