In a study of 22 patients undergoing augmentation mammaplasty, symmetry and change in breast shape was analyzed quantitatively by capturing the three-dimensional surface of the breast region, using a 3D laser scanner. Linear measurements as well as breast surface and breast volume determinations were carried out on a virtual model, using special image processing tools. In this context three-dimensional capturing of body surface turned out to be an accurate, simple in use, non-invasive, non-contact and well tolerated new alternative in an objektive evaluation of breast shape.
