Scope of the study is the structured management of early innovation processes to optimize program planning within the context of saturated markets. A procedure model is developed and impact variables are identified by thorough analysis of existing concepts in the relevant literature. Case studies are used to evaluate these impact variables, afterwards they are condensed to types of innovation processes. Aim of the study is an efficient and effective use of methods and instruments along the early phases of the innovation process. The analysis of configuration parameters is achieved by analysing the information demands and characteristics of methods using the Input-Process-Output (IPO) model from IT. Multi-dimensional scaling is identified as a powerful tool for usage within the program planning process. The formulation of configuration parameters with identical requirements leads to management recommendations for the identified types of innovation processes.
