Abstract:
Forests are undergoing substantial shifts due to anthropogenic climate change and associated climate-mediated changes in disturbance regimes. Disturbances are catalysts of forest change, and novel disturbance regimes lead to the emergence of novel ecosystems by shifting forest species composition and structure. Forest change might even be essential in a changing climate: reorganizing forests had a higher probability of maintaining their function than resilient forests.
