Nascent adhesions are protein complexes that connect the extracellular matrix to the actin cytoskeleton. This work shows that phase separation of adhesion adaptor proteins reconstitutes key features of nascent adhesion assembly and actin organisation, and that lipid phase separation additionally shapes integrin partitioning and clustering. Together, these findings establish a modular reconstitution platform for dissecting adhesion assembly, maturation, and pathological membrane remodelling.
