Abstract:
The effectiveness of radiotherapy is limited by damage to normal tissue, making it important to better understand the effects of ionizing radiation. This study showed that irradiated blood cells released extracellular vesicles with increased levels of miR-34a-5p and preferentially interacted with keratinocytes. miR-34a-5p in turn, induced senescence in keratinocytes. Patient data further support miR-34a-5p as a potential biomarker of radiation exposure and radiosensitivity.
